
Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam`s commercial and economic center. It has a
modern seaport and is home to the Vietnam Stock Exchange (VSE), the
largest stock exchange in the country. Food, glass, textiles, paper
products, plastics, chemicals, building materials and machines are
produced there. Ho Chi Minh City accounts for approximately 20% of the
gross national product (GDP), 30% of industrial production and 40% of
all Vietnamese exports.
The city also accounts for some 33% of the national budget. 60% of all
foreign investments flow into the region. During the past few years,
the economy has grown at a rate of more than 10% (six to eight percent
nationwide).
